1) I found Katy Grannan’s collection called Boulevard most interesting. I prefer this collection because she captures people just the way they are, which is what traditional photography essentially is about. Grannan’s collection is made up of portraits of people just going about their day. The people she photographs are no models with hourglass figures or six pack abs, these are just random individuals who agreed to be photographed. There’s little fanfare in the setup; all she needs is a blank white wall as the backdrop to amplify the focus on her subjects’ unique details; the wrinkles, the scars, the lopsided grins, the cigarette and tattoos, the protruding belly, etc. This collection is meaningful because what we usually see on magazines, posters, and ads are models whom very few relate to. Most of the time those models appear ethereal and as Grannan says, “nobody looks like that.” In contrast, it is Grannan’s models who actually represent what the average person looks like. What’s most interesting about this collection is the way people react to it. To viewers, these images may seem cruel for their honesty or unpleasant for their nonconformity to the standard of beauty. I think these photographs can teach us a great deal about our own discomforts and insecurities, and how to overcome it by learning about authentic beauty.

2)The collection that captured my attention and I personally loved was the ” Mood Disorder” by David Horvitz because the image that he presents shows frustration or a type of mood that seems as if is tired of something or maybe even going through a situation. The image shows him covering his face with his hands facing down as if he is trying to avoid something out of frustration. David explains how people tried taking credit for his picture and even used his picture in some websites. The image shows how many people feel and suffer from different mood disorders. It is an image that many people can relate to which is having a type of frustration.

Photography art

The photograph art requires different ideas and approaches to fully bridge the gap between seeing and understanding the conceptual meaning. The best photographic postings and art that I prefer is Nicholas Nixon who begins by touching about the four quadrants of our consciousness. Among them is the lower right which we don’t know and also nobody knows which hence this is the genesis of art.
