shortage is an ongoing issue affecting healthcare delivery in the United States for decades. By
2022, the U.S. will have a shortage of over 1 million registered nurses (RN). The nursing
shortage has been linked to factors such as an aging workforce, retirement, low staffing levels,
and the inability to attract and retain new nurses (Buerhaus, 2021).
