Communication techniques to use with the assigned patient and risk assessment instrument.

The best communication technique to use with the assigned patient is open face-to-face communication. Honesty, discretion, and transparency are important issues to consider when communicating with a patient. Active listening and asking open-ended questions are part of the techniques to use because they provide the patient with an opportunity to provide detailed information that helps with in-depth assessment of their history and health information (Ball et al., 2023). Physical documentation of patient data becomes easy when trust is cultivated, and a patient is allowed to provide as many details as possible (Sullivan, 2019). Personalized risk assessment instrument is the best for use with the identified client. A personalized risk assessment is chosen because it is flexible and can be used to evaluate risks in different areas of the patient who wants to learn about a specific area of interest (Vromans et al., 2022). Precisely, the assessment will provide insight into areas like medical history, contraindications, lifestyle and preferences, among other areas.

Nolmar Ocean Response post

For a 19-year-old black male athlete on scholarship experiencing muscle pain, effective communication techniques are vital. Actively listening to the athlete’s concerns and acknowledging the impact the pain has on their performance and life shows understanding and builds rapport (Bejar et al., 2019). Using straightforward language avoids confusion and ensures the athlete comprehends the information provided about their condition and treatment plan. Acknowledging and respecting cultural differences can help establish trust and a comfortable environment for open communication. Using visual aids or demonstrations (such as diagrams or videos) to explain the anatomical aspects of the injury can enhance understanding, especially for athletes who are kinesthetic learners. Engaging the athlete in setting achievable goals for recovery fosters motivation and commitment to the treatment plan. The risk assessment instrument I would consider using for this athlete is the “Orebro Musculoskeletal Pain Questionnaire.” The Örebro Musculoskeletal Pain Screening Questionnaire (ÖMPSQ) was created to pinpoint psychological and functional risk elements in individuals with musculoskeletal pain who are at potential risk of experiencing work-related disabilities (Heikkala et al., 2023). This tool helps assess the risk of developing persistent pain-related disabilities. Its applicability lies in its ability to identify individuals at risk of prolonged disability due to musculoskeletal pain.
