Evaluation of Crisis Skills and Characteristics
Details: I couldn’t download the video but I will give you a brief summary of the video. Rhonda is a new social worker and the client name is Kristen, works at the local office of emergency management and she experienced a crisis where she couldn’t save a little girl, and she was pulled away and she doesn’t know if the little girl made it. She can’t sleep, she felt helpless. Rhonda the counselor, given her body language she kept looking at her watch during the session. However, she was somewhat empathetic to the client, and she went from providing symptoms of PTSD, and if therapy didn’t help they could refer her to a psychiatrist to get medication to reduce her symptoms.
To prepare:
Assume the role of a mentor social worker. You will be reviewing the work of a newer member on your team to provide feedback via email.
First, watch the media Developing Crisis Skills to observe the social worker you are mentoring.
Select three examples of actions the practitioner could have/should have done differently and consider why you chose each. Think about how ineffective crisis treatment techniques can negatively affect a client.
Submit a document that contains both an email to your mentee and a reflection. Your email should be 400–500 words in which you:
Identify two or three examples of areas for improvement.
Describe what characteristics or skills could be developed to improve these areas. Explain why these characteristics and skills are important in crisis treatment.
Identify one or two areas of strength that the mentee shows in the session. Explain what makes these characteristics or skills important in crisis treatment.
As this is an email to a mentee, you want to refer to resources, but you do not need to include APA citations or a reference list.
Your reflection should be a 1- to 2-page paper in which you:
Briefly describe why you chose the strengths and areas for improvement that you did in your email to the mentee. What effects do specific characteristics and skills have during crisis treatment?
Explain any insights you gained or conclusions you drew about your own characteristics and skills from completing the interactive media and hypothetical mentoring experience.
Explain what steps you can take to develop the characteristics and/or skills that you should acquire or improve.
