Project for College Success
Why complete a project for College Success?
What do I need to do to complete this assignment?
Review a detailed description of steps to take to complete this project on the “How Do I Get This Done” page.
Use the format(s) you chose in your Project Proposal (e.g., written paper, visual art, slideshow presentation, etc.) to answer the following questions:
- What topic(s) did you focus your Success Project on?
- What resources did you use for your Success Project? Be specific about which resources you used from your topic’s resource page(s). List out all that you used with links and/or titles of videos, articles, books or other resources.
- What did you do to act on what you learned in your research? How did it work for you? Would you do it again? Why would you or would you not recommend it to other students?
- With whom did you share your Success Project? What feedback, if any, did you get? What was it like to share this work?
- What are your main takeaways from what you learned? List at least two takeaways from each topic.
- What was the total amount of time you spent on all parts of your Success Project? How much time do you estimate that you spent on each of the four phases of the project (Researching, Acting On, Sharing, and Reflecting)?
In your proposal, include the following:
- Describe yourself as an individual and learner. You do not need to include all aspects of your identity or tell your life story, but what stands out to you at this point in your life that you would like to share with someone as part of this project? What are the things you have right now that will help you to succeed
(e.g., qualities, skills, knowledge, resources)? - Think about what you came to EvCC to achieve and what you have learned
about in this class so far. Briefly describe what you know will be necessary to
achieve your goals. What really stands out to you as important and relevant to
your success as a student? - This part of the proposal is where you tell me what College Success topic(s) are
most important for you to learn more about. What makes it/them relevant to
you?
o Your project must explore at least one topic, but you may select up to
three topics. The total minimum number of hours you spend on this
project is 15 whether you choose to focus on one or three topics. If
you choose one topic, you will be expected to go more deeply into it
than if you choose to split your time on two or three topics.
o If you aren’t sure about the topic(s) that can work best for you, get
some ideas from the “Dig into” pages in this module.
o Whichever topic(s) you select, you will need to research the topic
and act on what you researched. - What form will your project take? Think about what you will enjoy creating. If
you dislike writing papers, choose a different way to communicate what you
learn in your project. Some ideas include:
o a visual art piece, like an infographic, series of memes, comic series,
graphic mini-novel
o written out as a traditional academic paper, a series of slides, a script,
a short story, journal, a letter, or instruction manual
o a recording of a speech, a vlog, a skit, a song
o something else altogether
o a combination of two or more of the above — this might be necessary,
depending on what you choose - Who will you share it with outside of this classroom? Consider anyone who
cares for you like family and friends, or an advisor or mentor, or an online
community you are connected with, or possibly someone you know who is also
in college or thinking about going to college. Say why you have chosen this
person or those people.
