Synthesize Christian Doctrine
This week you will begin developing an essay that synthesizes the basic teachings of Christianity. This essay will set forth in your own language and understanding the core doctrines of the Christian faith in conversation with your own unique ecclesial identity. It will be due at the end of Workshop 8, and will be the primary “take away” assignment from this course. See Appendix A below for further details.
Your assignment this week is to write the first part of this paper. This first part should include a short introduction of no more than 300 words) that describes both yourself (i.e., your ecclesial identity and ministry context) and the discipline of Christian theology (i.e., what it is, why it matters, what makes it even possible, etc.). The rest of the paper should discuss the various doctrines we have covered so far, i.e., revelation, God and creation. You do not need a conclusion. The entire assignment should be approximately 1000 words.
Be sure to present these doctrines in a clear, balanced and creative way. In other words, don’t be boring. Make sure to represent the core teachings of Christianity, while at the same time explicating them in terms of your own ecclesial and personal perspective.
