Impacts of the Civil War
The Civil War was one of the darkest periods in United States history, and provided valuable lessons on the implications of self interest and partisanship in decision making at the federal level of governance. Notably, differences in policy options related to the position of African American slaves in the country was one of the primary factors that led to the war between North and South (Corbett et al., 2016). The United States split into two, with the Northern States going against the Southern states, in addition to the battle lines being drawn along party lines in the country.
