In the video, Julia Galef says that the ability to make good judgments is determined by a person’s mindset. She offers the example of Alfred Dreyfus who was convicted with betraying the French army to the Germans. He was sentenced to life imprisonment despite the French government failing to find any evidence proving he was guilty. Galef says the French officials were driven by the motivated reasoning to find Greyfus guilty. She says that the people tend to find reasons to support the sides they want to win.
