Examine global criminal activity with a criminal case that took place in another country and answer the following questions relative to the case:

Provide some details about the case that took place out of the country, including what the charge was and the outcome of the case.
Do you think the charge or outcome would have been different if the case was handled in the United States? If so, in what ways would the case have been different?
Based on just this sole case, does it appear that the United States’ criminal justice system is harsher or more lenient than the country in which the case took place?
The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime report listed in the Recommended Resources contains a list of cases from other countries along with the charge and outcomes, which could be very helpful in completing this discussion.

Solution Preview

Cybercrime has become one of the criminal activities used by hackers to unlawfully gain money. On 4th, September 2017 a Russian court sentenced two members belonging to an infamous hacking group to three years in jail. The two had unlawfully broken into the high-ranking Russian official’s accounts. Konstantin Teplyakov and Alexander Filinov were accused off hacking into the accounts of Russian officials including the Twitter account of Russian’s Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev (Phys.org, 2019).
