Double-Headed Serpent
The statue is of an undulating serpent which has heads on each side. The backside of the curving has been hollowed out, to make it lighter and portable. The back is not plain, and the decorations have been put only on the two heads (Carlson, 1982). The outer body of the two-headed snake wholly covered in a variety of turquoise, which is accented by the spiky red oyster. The turquoise stones were broken entirely into tiny, flat tesserae that could be stuck on to the wooden body with pine resin.
