You may not realize it but, almost everything you do or document is likely used as data. Such data can
be coded as a quality initiative variable (patient satisfaction) or a rate (rate of infection; readmission).
Other data may be specific to a facility or population. Where nurses were once somewhat removed
from quality reports, they are a common discussion with each staff meeting. Nurses are likely
associated with most initiatives whether directly or indirectly.

1) Module 7 readings directed you to explore various databases (under General References and Resources). In regards to what you encounter everyday in the workplace, what stood out to you within the databases reviewed.

2) Explore nursing literature. Share a study using a database as a benchmark for the study ( i.e. Press Ganey’s patient satisfaction score – as an outcome variable in a study; or Hospital Compare’s HAI rate). Were national averages were included? Do you see your workplace as part of the study? What are your thoughts?

Question One
What stood out the most for me was the quality of organization in the data available on the different databases reviewed. Although any information stored in a particular database has the potential to make up data, qualitative or quantitative, the organization of such data is highly consequential to any use. The primary reason for said storage is always future retrieval and analysis for decision-making purposes.
