For this assignment, I would innovate a pen that can check student concentration to improve learning outcomes. The portable pen system will have the capability to detect lapses in concentration during teaching lessons or when reading. The pen will be fitted with pressure sensors on its grip to assess the user’s concentration level. Notably, a microcontroller and an accelerometer must be embedded within the pen casing to record data of the users during teaching programs or when reading texts using the pen as a pointer. When a substantial loss of concentration is detected, the system will generate an appropriate warning alarm to the user. Through this, the pen can indicate loss of concentration by the user when the grip loosens. Besides, the pen will be accompanied by a software program for recording data on user concentration over time, information that can also be plotted on a graph.
