Immigration History in the United States
The United States is a country made up of Immigrants, most of whom are from the European countries, having settled in the country before the twentieth century. Prior to the period, the country experienced different waves of immigrants, all of whom faced different types of challenges in settling in the diverse American states. Notably, economic opportunities and asylum from persecution formed the most significant reasons for immigration, which explains the significant distinctions in the immigration waves and the populations that moved into the United States. Based on these distinct groups of people, it becomes easy for one to understand the different factors that shaped their experiences in the country. Most importantly, analysis of the immigration patterns reveals that race was a significant factor in determining the levels of comfort of an immigrant, largely due to the extensive prejudice and discrimination in the United States at the time.
