In the recent past, there have been many instances where the media has used the term ‘alternative facts’ when people try to offer opposing positions in science, politics or policy. On many occasions, the positions spin the available information so as to suit the needs of the media houses that relay various messages to the members of the public. Science is often misused or abused to fit the narrative of certain individuals. A recent event that I identified that has seen people abuse and misuse scientific and factual information is the inauguration of Donald Trump as the President of the United States.
