There has been different incidences of civil wars in contemporary society, from which different scholars have made an effort to determine the possible reasons why different members of society join the war. In a research to ascertain this fact, Humphrey and Weinstein (2008) gathered evidence from participants in the war in Sierra Leone, from which they determined that social factors and the potential costs and benefits of participation in the war to be a significant contributor to participation.
