During the recession in 2007 to 2009 hardwood sawmills throughout the United States were under severe financial pressure which leads to the demand for weakness, challenges in profitability as well as inefficiencies in the supply chain. An assessment of supply chain tool was created in the attempt to evaluate a supply chain process which included fifteen sawmills that could produce three to twenty million board feet of lumber in a year and accounting for thirty-one percent of total production of hardwood lumber produced in New York.
