Negative effects mainly come up when the leader directs the followers to conduct certain activities that do not bring about growth and progress for the followers. Such followers may find themselves being led into such situations but may not have the potential to overcome them due to their emotional attachment to the leader. Positive effects can also come about when the leader directs the followers to undertake activities that are beneficial not only to the leader but also to the followers. As a result, followers need to be careful as they develop emotional attachment to a charismatic leader.
