I’d like you to select a particular detail or visual passage of that work that really captures your attention
Instructions
One of the things that so often happens, with famous works of art and, quite often, for famous works of art from the so-called High Renaissance (“masterpieces” by Michelangelo, Raphael, Titian, and Giorgione, among others) is that we see and admire these works—as whole works—but we rarely REALLY look at them.
So, for this week’s zoom response, I’d like you select a “famous” work by Michelangelo, Raphael, Titian, or Giorgione and react to and write about the work in its entirety BUT (and he is the major bit), I’d like you to select a particular detail or visual passage of that work that really captures your attention and represents for you the detail in that work that really gets you visually, intellectually, emotionally, or spiritually into that work and its meaning. In other words, think about how you see beyond the whole work to see the work deeply and meaningfully through a particular detail in that work that truly stands out to you and communicates for you the meaning of that work (and that meaning can be a conventional meaning or a very unconventional, personal meaning; in other words, don’t be afraid to make your own meaning around a work as you become struck by and fascinated by a particular detail of it).
