Titan is a renowned Italian artist who based his paintings on another Italian artist, Giorgione’s Sleeping Venus. At the time of his debut in 1583, Titan had little controversy whereby he took Giorgione’s painting to display a nude female reclining against her couch while lying in her bedroom. Unlike Giorgione’s Venus who was sleeping, Titan’s painting, Venus of Urbino, was a nude picture of a female relaxing while gazing at her viewers (Washington and Lee University, n.d.).
