Southeast Asia Questions and Answer.
1a. why is Southeast Asia considered a shatter belt?
A shatter belt is a geographical connotation that refers to regions that have a high risk of fragmentation courtesy of the constant political and cultural forces (Kelly, 1986). Therefore, from a geopolitical standpoint, these regions are often strategically positioned and often fall as regions of conflict between great nations.
The region is a composition of 11 countries namely, Cambodia, Malaysia, Indonesia, Philippines, East Timor, Brunei, Burma, Vietnam, Laos, Singapore, and Thailand. Therefore, Southeast Asia is a crucial region of the contest as it links America to both the Middle East and the Philippines.
