The chromosome theory of inheritance is a theory proposes that genes are located on the chromosomes. The theory was developed by Thomas Hunt Morgan after successful experiments using fruit flies or the Drosophila melanogaster which have similar chromosomes to that of human beings (Waddington, 2016). Unlike other organisms that have different means of ascertaining gender, the fruit flies have both the X and the Y chromosomes that are used to differentiate gender in humans (Waddington, 2016). Morgan studied the mutation effecting fruit flies whereby he inferred that the mutation was hereditary for both the female and the male insects.
