Hello class,
Cellular characteristics of Mycobacterium Tuberculosis (TB) are considered small, rod-shaped, aerobic, and acid-fast bacillus. They usually measure about 0.2mm long. So tiny that it can’t be seen by the naked eye. Acid-fast stains fall under the category of differential stains. Differential stains are described as using two different colored stains to clearly contrast cell parts and types. Acid-fast bacteria stain pink and nonacid fast bacteria stain blue. Acid-fast staining ensures that bacterium resists decolorization by acids when the staining procedure occurs. The body is surrounded by a capsule external to the cell wall that is able to protect against exterior surroundings. Inside it contains organelles that are responsible for creating the energy it needs in order to survive. TB bacterium can survive for long periods in nonliving reservoirs ( Cowan, 2020).
