Cell Transport Study Sheet

What is the difference between passive and active transport?

What is a concentration gradient?

Explain the differences between diffusion vs. osmosis. Which involves a membrane? Which is the movement of particles? Which is the movement of water?

Explain the difference between simple diffusion and facilitated diffusion. Are these passive or active? Which one uses a carrier molecule?

In osmosis, water will always move from regions that are _____ tonic to regions that are ____tonic.

The area with a higher concentration of solutes is considered _____tonic.

The area with a lower concentration of solutes is considered ______ tonic.

If the solution outside of a cell is hypertonic, what is the inside of the cell?

Differentiate between isotonic, hypertonic and hypotonic solutions.

Energy is necessary for which form of transport? (active or passive?)

What is the difference between endocytosis and exocytosis?

What is phagocytosis? What is pinocytosis? Are these processes of endo or exocytosis?

CELL TRANSPORT
Active transport is the process of moving molecules against the concentration gradient while Passive transport refers to the movement of molecules down the gradient. While in active transport transportation occurs from a low concentrated solute to high concentrated solute in the passive transport it occurs from high to low concentration.
