The prefrontal cortex is a region of the brain, and it is located behind the eyes. The roles of prefrontal cortex and the limbic system in early childhood are that they work together in a child to enable the child to be thoughtful, engaged and intentional. Those pathways also work together to interpret stimuli based on the current and past experience (Bush, Luu & Posner, 2000).
