Write a 3-5 page paper providing the above information points to senior management of the hospital system.
VPNs in the Time of the Flu or Disaster
You work for a mid-sized hospital system with 25 facilities and 3,500 employees in the Midwestern United States. Senior management wants to purchase and implement a VPN system that supports remote client access for teleworking activities during pandemics, natural disasters, and extreme weather conditions. It must support PPTP-, SSTP-, and L2TP-based VPNs. You need to prepare a report for senior management that explains the following:
Implications of providing this functionality in terms of the network, firewall configuration, and overall security posture of the organization.
The protocols and ports that need to be considered as the firewall policy is created.
Recommendations on the vendor, type of VPN, and VPN model/architecture to use within the organization.
Keep in mind the audience of the report, non-technical users, and the organization type, which is healthcare. Healthcare organizations and users need access to corporate networks to upload highly sensitive patient health information (PHI), complete telehealth activities (video appointments with patients and other medical providers), etc. The VPN connectivity and application must be seamless, easy to navigate for users, and must not create a significant workload on the network, which causes unauthorized service outages.
