Introduction
One characteristic shared by medieval England and ancient Mesopotamia is the aspect of literature. Literature was primarily used to deliver teachings and other values from generation to generation. Among the literatures of medieval Europe and Mesopotamia are poems. A good example of poems from these times are Beowulf and The Epic of Gilgamesh. This paper compares and contrasts the themes and main characters in both The Epic of Gilgamesh and Beowulf as they are perceived by the societies that forged them as well as the differences of the settings from where these two epic poems are set from.
