Group Networking Project (200 points)
As a team, you are expected to plan and execute a healthcare information technology project that incorporates one or more network components. You should have proposed and received approval for your topics from your facilitator earlier in the course. If this task has not been accomplished, please contact your facilitator as soon as possible. Do not begin this project unless your team received approval for your topic.
There will be two deliverables resulting from your work on this networking project:
A formal paper
A PowerPoint presentation based on your paper with speaker notes. Here is a video on how to add speaker notes. Here are PowerPoint best practices.
You are expected to:
Identify all critical elements and technologies necessary to achieve the stated goals of your project.
Describe the resources you will require to achieve your project goals.
Architect, at a high level, your proposed solution and draw a network diagram in a software application of your choice. Be sure to label all components and connectors.
List and describe clinical applications that will run on your proposed infrastructure.
Identify benefits and risks to business operations and patient care environment, resulting from your proposed solution.
Briefly describe to senior management why your solution is a good fit and how you will address the risks identified above. Be sure to identify how customers (patients and/or associates) will benefit from your architecture.
Outline your operational strategy for planning and rolling out your product.
Outline your future vision for this product and how it fits into the mission and vision of your organization.

Your paper will be 2000-2500 words, written in APA style. This includes 2000-2500 words of content + title page + abstract + references. Sample APA papers can be found here.
You must include references on your PowerPoint presentation. Any borrowed material should be cited regardless of where it appears. This video by SmartStudent is an excellent reference for adding citations to a PowerPoint. Watch this video before you start building your presentation. Your PowerPoint must be exported as a PDF – this is what you will submit in the assignments folder (below). Here are instructions for exporting a PowerPoint
with slide notes.
You must export with the slide notes or you will not receive credit for the speaker notes which are worth 20 points.
Please remember to use reputable sources for your case. Faculty members have multiple tools available to them to check for the authenticity of your work, as well as to identify potential sources of plagiarism. The best way for students to avoid losing points and having academic disciplinary actions taken against them for plagiarism is to not plagiarize.
Your paper should be in .doc, .docx, or PDF format. Your PowerPoint should be in .ppt or .pptx format. Do not paste your response into the text editor.
Keep in mind that your group members will be grading your contributions through a Peer Assessment; students who have consistently low marks from their peers may have their individual grade for this unit negatively adjusted.
This assignment will be similar to Unit 3 except there is no prompt. We are asking for you to pick a topic and scenario that is of interest to your group members. Because there is no prompt, you will need to give a bit more background on the project and explain why it’s necessary. You should approach solutioning as an IT director.
For example, you work as an IT director for a retail pharmacy chain and plan to implement a solution to monitor non-compliance in diabetic patients through data collected from a patient app, dispensing history, and HIE data from various EHRs. The pharmacist will then be able to counsel patients to help reduce non-compliance. In this case, you would share the current infrastructure, and explain how you plan to expand the network to support the patient app which will send data into your main data center along with other data that will flow in from the HIE, and be analyzed in-house before being fed into the pharmacy information system. **Some of the elements we expect to see are:

WHO: Who are the stakeholders and major players that you need buy-in from?
WHAT: What hardware, software, contracts, capital, etc. is needed to execute this project?
Clinical Applications
WHAT: What clinical applications will run on this network?
HOW: How will the applications connect to the network (LAN, local loop, WAN, VPN)?
Proposed Solution
WHAT: What does the existing architecture look like (if any)? What does the proposed solution look like at a high level (diagram)?
HOW: How does the networking solution relate to the applications that will run on it (bandwidth, distance, etc.)?
WHY: Why is this the best solution?
Operational Strategy
WHEN: When will this project be executed? What is the timeline?
HOW: How will education, communication, and other operational needs be met?
Risks and Benefits
WHAT: What are the risks and benefits to the business and care environment as a result of your networking solution?
Appeal to Senior Management
WHY: Why is this project viable, reasonable, and essential? Why did you choose the proposed networking solution? Justify your reasoning.
Future Vision
WHAT: What are the future opportunities of implementing this networking project?
HOW: How do these opportunities align with the mission and vision of your organization.
