Culture standing the test of time depends on who becomes the leader when a prior leader is replaced. A leader can decide to preserve the culture that the organization has or they can try their best to change the culture. Culture can vary from organization to organization and different teams within these organizations can have different cultures as well. Culture can even change with the growth of a company.

When looking at if cultures stands the test of time we have to ask what are we really looking at. As I believe the culture of organizations can be tweaked over the years and as leaders change. On the other hand, though I feel that the main values and views within a culture are always there and can be very difficult to change.

Examples of changing culture because of growth could be as an organization gains more people and thus brings new ideas and thoughts from these people. Within organizations, variations in culture can be found by functional area or even by workgroup (Cheng & Groysberg, 2020, para. 4). Another way an organization can grow and change the culture is where they geographically grow and how the national culture of where the organization now resides affects the organizational culture.

No matter how much an organization grows they still have some basic cultural tendencies that they fall back on. The text even talks about at some fundamental level, how someone does things in a given industry reflects the core technologies that created that industry (Schein, 2017, pg. 221). This can be seen in today’s world that there are some fundamental values in a culture that can be seen and link multiple people together. Great examples of this would be that most organizations and teams try to make everybody’s job have some sense of purpose. That culture can go through some great and vast changes as humans and technology advance but I feel that there are some cultural values that do stand the test of time.
