!. Selecting a topic: By now, all of you should have selected a topic. It’s really a broad guide to your research
action. You can go online for tips, or you can use your textbook as a guide. Here are some examples.
a. Migration: Migration is a stressor, and a psychological trauma because it involves adjusting to a new culture.
It’s basically a life stage.
b. Native Americans and their relationship with psychotherapy illustrates how Native Americans descent with a
history of genocidal sufferings (Warner, 2003). For them and Jewish people, remembering the sufferings is the way
to heal.
c. How American-Europeans attributed negative traits to the darker skin color of Africans that eventually turned
into racism.
d. Compare and contrast how boys and girls are taught sex education in various cultures,

The above are just a few of the interesting topics for you to examine.
GUIDELINES
Your essay should be typed, double-spaced with 1″ margins on all sides. You must have clear font that is easily
read. Use Times New Roman font – 12 pt.
Title page: Include a page header (also known as the “running head”) at the top of every page. To create a page
header/running head, insert page numbers flush right. Then type “TITLE OF YOUR PAPER” in the header flush
left using all capital letters. The running head is a shortened version of your papers’s title and cannot exceed 50
characters including spacing and punctuation.
Your essay should include four major sections: the Title Page, Abstract, Main Body, and References.
Title Page
The title page should contain the title of your paper, the author’s (your) name, and the institutional affiliation.
Include the page header (described above) flush left with the page number flush right at the top of the page. Your
title should be no more than 12 words in length.
The abstract is always on page 2, and should include the page header. On the first line of the abstract page, center
the word “Abstract (no bold, formatting, italics, underlining, or quotation marks. Beginning with the next line, write
a concise summary of the key points of your research. (Do not indent.) Your abstract should contain t leaser your
research topic, research questions, participants, method, result, data analysis, and conclusions. Your abstract should
be between 150 and 250 words. You may also want to list key words (italicized.)

I received a query from one of your classmates regarding the length of the research
paper. Since it is impossible to spend as much time on the paper as I would like, here’s
a guide:
• The title page is page 1 • The abstract is (always) page 2 • Your introduction begins on page 3 • The body of the paper begins after your introduction (the introduction can be one page in length, and probably
looks quite a bit like your attract). • Your final page is the full-text citation page. • Don’t forget, any quotes 50 words or longer must be “blocked”. • Whenever you quote, and or paraphrase someone source, it must be followed by an in-text citation.
Be sure to get a copy of s small booklet in the school library entitled A Guide To Writing
Research Papers APA Style. It is about 16 pages in length, and covers much of what
you will need to prepare your paper.
