Children are a vulnerable group prone to many diseases and infections that affect the way their bodies develop and function. Cystic fibrosis is a complicated health condition mainly facing children which affects the smooth movement of sodium chloride in specific cells due to a faulty gene in the victims. When the body is not receiving efficient salts, the child tends to have heavy, thick and sticky mucus, salty sweat and abnormally thick digestive systems (Lux, 2005). Thick mucus, in this case, is extremely dangerous as it can lead to the clogging of the lungs which facilitated to breathing problems in most of the affected children. The mucus is also encouraged by the growth of bacteria which might lead to lung infections and finally a total damage to these crucial organs (Lux, 2005).
