Hospitals have always played a crucial role in managing emergencies as well as large scale disasters. Every hospital should be prepared to respond to all kinds of emergency. However, emergency management is not an easy task as it requires a lot of community resources as well as government collaboration. There should be a healthcare plan showing how to react to a particular hazard and the recovery mechanism during and after the emergency. Healthcare preparedness and response can only be maintained effectively by following a preparedness cycle. The continuous cycle includes planning, organizing, training, equipping, exercising, evaluating, and taking corrective action. Besides the preparedness cycle, federal resources are also required. They established the National Incident Management System (NIMS), an ideology that allows members of the community to work together in managing emergencies, (Ric Skinner, 2010).
