discuss Cezanne’s emphasis on “construction”
Douglas Lord’s article “Nineteenth-Century French Portraiture” explains that Paul Cezanne’s Portrait of the Artist’s Wife, and other of his portraits are “quite indifferent to his sitter’s face or character : but he minded a great deal about their construction.” In some ways his portraits, including those of his wife, expose more about himself (and his aims) than reveal things about the sitter. – Using one of his portraits of his wife, briefly (200-300 words) discuss Cezanne’s emphasis on “construction,” his interest in form over content. Be specific and cite article as applicable. (You might explore how he used color (rather than light and shadow) to create form, etc.).

Cezanne’s Emphasis on “Construction”
Paul Cezanne made a portrait known as Madame Cezanne with Unbound Hair in the mid – 1870s to 1890. The oil – on – canvas portrait illustrated the influence of impressionism and absence of an extroverted control of the movement, further, draws focus on the personal life of the subject. The complete oval shape of her eyes and vague structure of the eyes and lips brings out a detached idea conception of the model. To the general public, the portrait appears as human more sensitive feminism and frail. Features are presented in light key with the almost shadow less face against a well – light ground.
