You will be responding to a discussion board post. This post should be 80% you, and then facts found from other sources. Its not opinionated. It needs to have critical thinking. 125 Word minimum, APA format, cited. It needs to pertain to the paragraph and what the paragraph says. To begin talking about sex chromosomes in determing sex, we need to understand what is a sex chromosome.
According to the Encyclopedia Britannica, sex chromosomes , either of a pair of chromosomes that determine wheter an
individual is a male or female. The sex chromosomes of human beings and other mammals are designated by scientists as
X and Y. In humans the sex chromosomes comprise one pair of the total of 23 pairs of chromosomes. The other 22 pairs
of chromosomes are called autosomes. The main reason I picked this topic was because when I had my first child (female),
everyone told me that maybe I was a (Chancletero), in Puerto Rico that means you can only made girls. BUt my second child
was a boy, then they couldn’t call call me that nickname anymore, but everyone in my island used to tell me that the man
was the determing factor at the time of conception. Also apparently was proved that if a man wants a baby boy the man
needs to eat a lot of meat in other words a lot of protein, I personally don’t believe that one. By the book, what determines
whether a zygote develops into a male or female? The distinction begins with the combination of sex chromosomes
bequeathed to the zygote. Most of our cells have 23 pairs of chromosomes:22 pairs of autosomes and 1 pair of sex
chromosomes. A sex chromosome can be either a large X chromosome or a small Y chromosome( McGraw-Hill Education
p. 1027). The path to maleness or femaleness originates at the moment of meiosis, when a cell divides to produce
gametes, or sex cells having half the normal number of chromosomes. During meiosis the male XY sex chromosome pair
separates and passes on an X or a Y to separate gametes; the result is that one-half of the gametes (sperm) that are formed
contains the X chromosome and the other half contains the Y chromosome. The female has two X chromosomes, and all
female egg cells normally carry a single X. The eggs fertilized by X-bearing sperm become females (XX), whereas those
fertilized by Y-bearing sperm become males (XY).

Based on my findings the determinant of sex in humans and other animal species is specific chromosomes. XX/XY system of determining sex is most familiar and is found in humans where females have (XX) chromosomes which are similar, and males have two different sex chromosomes the (XY).
