Psychosocial aspects of disaster
What do you think it takes to be a qualitatively effective Disaster Mental Health responder?
I think that an individual is needed to be mentally and physically strong before addressing other people’s needs. Other than this, an individual should possess skills in situational awareness (Pfefferbaum, et al. 2012). Situational awareness enables individuals to implement various plans to mitigate a given issue.
What kinds of character traits and skills seem necessary?
Some of the skills and character traits include the ability to work with a team, excellent communication, quick and effective decision making, and flexibility, among others as noted by King, Burkle, Walsh, & North (2015).
