Societies are always subject to change as the public gains further insight into different concepts. In France, Art faced significant changes across centuries as people developed further questions and sought greater inspiration from different works of art. In particular, there was significant development in the interpretation of art in the mid-twentieth century, which in scholars sought to not only understand the subjects of the different works of art and the surface and material on which they were painted, but also the social milieu of the different works of art (Woods, 2012).
