Discussion Post: Post-Apocalyptic Dreams
Post-apocalyptic novels, such as Cormac McCarthy’s The Road, and The Maze Runner series, and television shows such as “The Walking Dead,” are currently extremely popular. Byron’s poem “Darkness” is one of the first such pieces of writing in the British literary tradition. How would you compare Byron’s approach to portraying a dying world to current post-apocalyptic stories? Is he trying to elicit the same emotions as the more recent works? Why doesn’t Byron offer us any specific characters? (Please write an initial post of roughly 100 words, and respond to another student’s post with roughly 50 words.)
