Lateral leadership is a form of leadership that emanates from efficiently influencing other people around you without prior or official authority to have such a commanding position within an institution or group. Lateral leadership is mainly associated with individuals who have implicit or implied leadership authorities within a group. Such leadership is not explicit and the individuals demonstrate their leadership shrewdness and prowess without formal authority being granted by their managers or supervisors. Whenever an individual finds themselves in a situation where they have lateral leadership, it may be a great opportunity for them to showcase their skills and competencies in leadership.
