Emancipation Proclamation
The Emancipation Proclamation was an important shift during the civil war. This executive order was given by President Abraham Lincoln on 22nd September 1862. It is considered one of his great achievement. The Proclamation was meant to free all slaves in rebellious states. It, therefore, affected all slaves in areas which had not been recaptured or those who were not under union supervision (Burlingane, 2008). However, considering that these areas were not yet under the control of the union, the proclamation led to freeing of just a portion of the slave population.
