English Literature Annotated Bibliography
Lyon, J. (2010). The merchant of Venice. New York: Harvester Wheatsheaf.
The author mainly focuses on the relationship between Bassanio and Portia. Bassanio was a Venetian of noble rank who was interested in wooing Portia. However, he had squandered most of his wealth and needed 3,000 ducats to be accepted as a suitor. Due to his lack of cash, he approached his friend Antonio who was a wealthy merchant. This plays a huge role in the story as it helps develop a plot upon which the rest of the play is based upon.
