Mount trashmore was term used not only in Staten Island but all up and down the East coast to refer to Staten Islands; largest dumpsite. Fresh kill the world’s former largest dumpsite was three times New York’s central park. At over 2,200 acres it grew to become the world’s largest garbage dump.

Staten Island was famous to hold not only the largest landfill in the US but also the largest operating dump in the world a label that affected the local residents negatively. Everybody made fun of the people and it gave the residents such a sense of shame that made them feel bad about where the live. Furthermore, keeping in mind that it was already difficult to start businesses in New York, the image affected the business coming to Staten Island.
