Essay English 104
GENERAL INFORMATION
In their essays, “The Meanings of a Word” and “Being a Chink”, Gloria Naylor and Christine Leong describe their personal experiences with race growing up in the United States. Although their essays are personal, they can be considered universal for many people like Naylor and Leong because they are describing life in a society that is not inclusive and not color blind.

All of the videos will follow the same pattern. They may have different titles, publication dates, and of course different URLs, but everything else is the same.

How important is the topic of race in the United States today in 2018?
The issue of inclusion has been a major problem in the United States for decades. Having been founded on the integration of different races, the U.S is lauded as the most diverse nation globally. However, the issue of race is still of significant importance as minority groups are discriminated against based on their color. To many, racial discrimination was settled decades ago, and its practice is not upheld in society. Despite this, each week brings new stories on race relations thereby highlighting that the issue is still alive. Most of the Americans think racism is getting worse especially after the election of Donald Trump as the United States president. While attention is being paid to the strides achieved by the nation after the criminalization of slavery and racial discrimination, race is still an important issue in the American society as the minority groups raise concerns of continual discrimination.
