Examining Nursing Specialties
I have been a nurse for 15 years and during that time I have worked in multiple disciplines. After finishing CRNA
school, I held a couple of CRNA positions. I already have an MSN degree. However, in the last few years, I have
questioned my career path. While I have over ten years of experience being a nurse anesthetist, I am not sure I
want to continue full-time work as a CRNA. The operating room has become a place that I find to be disconnected
and, frankly, boring. I miss connecting with patients and other providers. Walden University provides many
different options for me to alter my career path as an advanced practice nurse, and for that, I am grateful (Walden
University, n.d.). I decided to obtain a post-masters certificate as an FNP. I look forward to connecting with awake
patients and following up with them regularly.
