Spousal support is also referred to as alimony. Alimony is, therefore, the provision of a husband or a wife after the separation or divorce of the couple (Inker, 1975). The term used however by a majority of the people is maintenance. The monetary support is for the other spouse’s upkeep and living expenses or sustenance. The obligation to provide alimony usually is legal as it is an order by the court.
