Family Social Media Usage
Begin by discussing the risks and benefits of social media usage in general. Then, choose one of the following topics and research that topic as it pertains to children, adolescents, and families. Be sure to consider how social media can both facilitate and prevent the risks associated with your chosen topic and the role of social constructionism in shaping our understanding of the topic and its consequences. Make sure to include APA citations for any sources used.
- Cyberbullying
- Sexting
- Privacy Policies
- Online Harassment
- Identity Theft
- Is it OK that everyone’s reality is a bit different?
- How do we create our realities? How do children create their reality?
- What role does social media play in social constructionism?
Using the information above, pretend you’re a social media expert that has been invited to a school to talk to parents, teachers, and teens regarding the risks, benefits, and one in-depth topic of your choice. For this assignment, you will create an infographic poster or pamphlet (not the presentation) that would be the visual supporting evidence of the presentation. (You may choose to use whatever program/software/materials you’d like; however, I recommend canva.com as it is incredibly user-friendly).
The pamphlet/infographic will display information and statistics about your chosen topic. The topics listed above are just starting points, and you should delve into these in more detail.
The infographic/pamphlet will include:
- An overview of the benefits and risks of social media
- At least six facts or an analysis of one topic that relates to the risks and benefits of social media (cyberbullying, sexting, privacy policies, online harassment, identity theft)
- How your topic relates to a theory from class
- How your topic relates to social constructionism
- How parents, students, and teachers can use this information
- Two scholarly sources with appropriate APA citations
