The Second World War started in Europe, with the German invasion of Poland in 1939, September 1st. This irrational invasion provoked France and the United Kingdom, who declared war on Germany two days after the Poland attack. Other countries that also joined the alliance to fight Germany include Australia, New Zealand, Canada and South Africa (James, 2009).
