Geographic Crime Analysis

Assignment Instructions:
The command staff has approached you regarding how best to distribute resources in order to curtail crime in various Districts.
Go to the Chicago crime map
(See Class Resources for the link to the Chicago Crime Map).
1. Under “Visualize and Query Crime Data by Police District”, click on the “Explore Index Crime” button. Keep the “Index (Part I) Crime” tool, set to “All Index Crime”. Use the “Date Range” tool and set the date to cover the previous 30 days from today’s date.
2. Use the “District Filter” to select one district. When you select the district, a list of all the Index crimes reported in that district appears on the map. The details for each crime that occurred are listed under the “Crime Details” column.
3. Select 4 different types of crimes (Robbery, Aggravated Assault, Arson, etc.) that were reported in that district and record the number of the occurrences of each crime.
4. Select 3 other districts in different parts of the city and record the number of occurrences of the same four crimes as you selected in your first district. You will now have data on 4 types of crime which occurred in 4 different districts.
