I’d rather see you write less, being concise, than more with meandering thoughts. That said, please do not miss any elements of the question and provide good examples. I’d suggest outlining prior to beginning. Each essay is worth 1% of your final grade in IB450. Any questions, don’t hesitate to ask!
1. Bow Inc. is a European-based firm that is interested in a global reach. They sell many paper-based products including greeting cards, ribbon, novelty gifts, etc. The industry is known for very little brand loyalty and customer retention. The majority of their products sell for under $5 retail and are manufactured and distributed from Thailand where labor costs are inexpensive and most products are made for under $1. Their corporate headquarters is based in Ireland but have presence in most of the European nations in the EU at this time. They do not compete in other markets yet, but are interested in doing so. They have achieved success in the EU markets using an export approach, but are considering an expansion into the US market. Review the four primary factors that affect a decision like this and advocate for an approach for Bow Inc. to take when it comes to selling to the US market in both B2B and B2C outlets. Be specific on what type of decision you would make as an international manager and support your decision with examples from materials we’ve examined in class or you have knowledge of on your own.
2. Provide your own personal definition of globalization – do not give a book definition. After doing so, expand on the two key elements: globalization of markets and globalization of production. Give an example of a company that you know that has done globalization very well. Be specific in your response, and please do not select Adidas, Reebok, or any other brand mentioned in the case we examined. Provide your own example. What has this firm done to leverage the advantages of the globalization of production and markets? Finally, expand on how this firm remains competitive within the industry that it operates and what you expect to see in the next 5-years in this industry.
