What do you feel are the most important aspects of the helping interview?
Very easy assignment. For each chapter write 2 paragraphs. For hands on learning and introduction I’ll give you instructions.
Hi great seeing you. Yes let me give you more description for each one of the assignmnets.
1. CH 13
Prior to completing this discussion be sure to read Chapter 13 of the text Patient Practitioner Interaction as you will be required to cite the text in your discussion.
The first interview with a patient… this can be a nerve racking experiencing for new practitioners… what will the patient be like. Will they be willing to provide the necessary information, will they want to discuss difficult topics, will they be aggressive or will the interview go smooth without difficulty? In most cases we hope for the last scenario, but unfortunately sometimes we experience difficult interviews with patients. Our response as practitioners can determine the outcome when working with the patients that may be a little more difficult to assess. For example, it is often helpful to tell a patient that has been a victim of a crime that has led to an injury that they are in control during the interview and if it becomes difficult to talk about the event, that is okay. As the text states non-verbals also come into play. The interview is the first experience a patient has with the practitioner and first impressions count! It is therefore important to be professional and caring in these interactions even when the patient has participated in behaviors of which we may not approve of.
In your discussion please address the following:
What do you feel are the most important aspects of the helping interview? Why?
What do you feel are your strengths in terms of conducting a helping interview?
What are you weaknesses with a helping interview? How can you improve on you interviewing skills? Please be specific.
The text states that as practitioners we need to be therapeutic to individuals that have participated in behaviors that are not socially acceptable (such as a rapist or individual that uses illegal drugs). Is there a certain population of people of which you feel that will be particularly difficult to work with? How can you try to work on your judgments towards these individuals so you can provide them with the necessary care?

2. Hands on Learning Activity
For this activity you will need to watch a youtube video. The video features a social work student conducting an initial interview with a client. I understand that probably no one in this class is planning on going into social work, but many of the skills such as asking open ended questions and establishing rapport are present across all disciplines of healthcare. It is the responsibility of many healthcare providers to gain information about the patient for effective treatment to take place. When effective interviewing is not present many negative consequences can result, making communication vital. With that being said please watch the following youtube video:
After viewing the video, please answer the following questions in a 1 to 2 page paper.
What did the interviewer do well? What could she have improved upon?
What did you notice about body language?
What did you notice about her communication style and the types of questions she asked?
What did you notice about self-disclosure? What is your opinion of self-disclosure? How do you plan to use self-disclosure within your role as a healthcare provider?
Describe your personal communication style. What are your strengths and weaknesses in this area? How can you improve on your weaknesses, and how can you use your strengths to your advantage? Please be specific.
Why is interviewing important to your work as a healthcare provider? How can you apply what you have learned to your practice or future practice as a healthcare provider.
Also- please write a sentence providing feedback about this assignment. Did you find it to be a worthy learning experience, what if anything could be changed to make it more educational or beneficial?
3. ch 14
Prior to completing this discussion be sure to read Chapter 14 of the text Patient Practitioner Interaction as you will be required to cite the text in your discussion.
Spirituality plays a vital role in the lives of many people. Since it is so important to many, it often times crosses over into the realm of their health and wellness. Additionally spirituality is often a central topic in end of life matters, another area that health care practitioners are often involved with. Spirituality can also help patients to experience many positive benefits in relation to health as the text points out (Davis & Musolino, 2016). The area of spirituality can also consume patients that are experiencing spiritual distress which would be a hindrance to treatment of patients. Thus, spirituality is an important area for healthcare practitioners to explore and have awareness of. Even if you do not consider yourself a spiritual person, you may come across patients that tell you of their progress due to their higher power or patients experiencing spiritual distress. At the very least a healthcare practitioner must acknowledge the importance of spirituality in a patient’s life and care (Davis & Musolino, 2016). When the issue is beyond the scope of the practitioner’s practice, referral is necessary.
In your discussion please address the following:
As is often the case with various topics in interpersonal skills in healthcare, self-awareness in terms of spiritual issues is a positive way to assist patients in their own spiritual needs. Tell us about what spirituality means to you. Be sure to differentiate in between spirituality and religion.
Review the biological and biopsychosocial models of health and illness outlined in the text (Davis & Musolino, 2016). Which model are you more comfortable with? Why?
Lastly discuss the importance of awareness of spiritual issues to healthcare practice.

4. ch 15
Prior to completing this discussion be sure to read Chapter 15 of the text Patient Practitioner Interaction as you will be required to cite the text in your discussion.
Providing education to patients is essential for healthcare providers. Effective education can make or break treatment outcomes. Additionally it is not just what we are providing education on that is important but also how we are delivering the education. For example, when educating a patient about the risks involved with using tobacco, a patient will likely not take in the education if they feel judged or belittled. Showing compassion through the delivery of information can help increase the likelihood that a patient will take the education provided to heart and follow through with suggestions.
In your discussion please address the following:
The text provides several models that can be applied when educating patients. Review these models and discuss which model you are most comfortable with. What is it about this model that you like? Compare this model to the other models.
Identify a health behavior of which you yourself could improve (exercising, eating healthier, regular check-ups etc.) Given the education on this health behavior what is it that stops you from improving this area? If you were your own healthcare practitioner, how could you go about providing education on this health behavior in an effort to improve health and wellness? Describe the model that you could use and how you could apply it.

5. Introduction
I already have a topic selected and my thesis is completed too. I need to add introduction and make sure introduction be at least 2 pages long.
Topic:Communicating Effectively with Patients that have Dementia
Again this may seem easy, but you need to have a good idea of what you are going to write about in order to complete the introduction.
Feel free to edit thesis if you want or feel should add or delete some information.
