Historical Essay Case Study: The Road to and Events of September 11, 2001

Historical Essay- 9/11 as a Case Study- 40pts.

The Road to and Events of September 11, 2001

This paper is on a topic of student choice relating directly to the events of 9/11, the historical context and emerging historiography, and the official inquiry. It should be 4-6 pages (roughly 1,000 to 1,500 words) double-spaced, 12pt. font, Times New Roman, cited properly in Chicago Style (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site. with endnotes or footnotes.

Students are responsible for choosing an appropriate essay topic among the following: the road to 9/11, the events of 9/11 themselves, or the 9/11 Commission Report. Select a line of inquiry relating to a specific 9/11 research challenge. Consider, too, some type of historical analogy, looking back in US history, what do other major events tell us about historical narrative construction, the role of the press, censorship, and propaganda (as we’ve discussed previously)? Do not try to write about too broad a topic, and please pick something about which you can “ask the right questions” as our critical thinking text authors would put it. We’ve been covering some of these angles in class, and areas where there are controversies have been noted in the many readings already posted (see Discussions for those readings and come to class for more content coverage). Please ask questions in class or via e mail if need be. Looking forward to your thoughts and arguments!

The 9/11 Commission Report

The September 11, 2001 assaults in the northern part of the United States was a structured attack done by 19 individuals from the troupe of al-Qaeda. The group leader Osama Bin Laden declared conflict against the United States for the killing of the Americans back then in 1998. Osama Bin Laden wrote a letter stating that al-Qaeda’s sole motive for their assaults was because of the Western collaborations in the attack for Muslims in Somalia, collaboration of atrocities among the Russians towards the Muslims in Chechnya, support of the oppression from the Indians towards the attack of Kashmir Muslims, Jewish hostility towards Muslims in Lebanon, existence of the United States groups in Saudi Arabia, United States support of Israel and lastly authorisations against Iraq [1].
