I’m working on a literature writing question and need guidance to help me study.
One of the noteworthy features of Ahmad ibn Fadlan’s Risala is that it serves as more than just a travelogue or chronicle. When he describes his journey, he is writing about people. Rather than providing catalogs of goods or details of trade routes, Ibn Fadlan reveals real people and real places. In this respect, we can compare him to the Greek epic poet Homer; both men chose to write human histories rather than chronicles. In what ways might we compare the effects of that decision on readers of the Iliad and the Risala?
